old stuff rules

this looks like a table, right?
 wrong! well, half wrong.
Sooo sweet! Brandon, lives in this house that used to belong to an old lady. She died awhile back, but a lot of her stuff is still there. Things like magazines, books, dishes, hats, a hospital bed, it was like a time capsule of her life for the last 40 years. I have a couple of her things, like an orange furry hat, a lamp, and some sweet t.v. trays. Anyways that was a while back, but today Brandon pulls this heavy ass table out from his closet, and there was a sewing machine inside! I've never seen anything like it, but I'm sure there are a lot of them still around. The top part of the table folds out, and underneath is where the machine is kept and you can pull it out with the press of a button! Plus the little door opens up and there's a little compartment inside that can old notions and what not.

These were in there, its the instruction manual, a card about how to thread the needle, and the warranty, but oddly enough the part that should have the date on it is blank.

And Brandon. Did you notice how neat his room is?? And the dumbbell, amp, and and those boys posters?   My room is nothing like this. I don't think I ever posted any pictures of my new sewing machine, its nothing special, the same as my old one, but just for the sake of comparing

This is my sewing area, yes a little cluttered to put it mildly, but what do you expect? it's in the kitchen (our place is 80% kitchen). Also, my machine just sits ON the table, it doesn't have a little spot within the table,  but that old one doesn't have a coffee maker or wine rack attached to it. It doesn't work either, according to Brandon, when he plugged it in it started smoking, but i still think its cool.

LOLZ

haha shits funny! man i love the internet.

did you know that Zach Morris is still fine?? google it! this here is a little more 90's than I can handle, never was much of  an AC Slater fan.

Cady Heron? Is there a Cady Heron here? Apparently not on the new Mean Girls DS game!

Gloomy Sunday

oh! the second Sunday in a row with gray skies and soggy everything! it sucks, but you know what they say, "April showers, bring May flowers", those May flowers better be damn beautiful! I wanted to go free zip lining today!

This is as far as I'm willing to go outside.
on a different note, I got this book from the library called Lost Goddesses of Early Greece written by Charlene Spretnak and basically every chapter is about a different goddess. These myths are the stories before the Ionians and Dorians who brought them to Greece and skewed them with "patriarchal social order and their thunderbolt God, Zeus", which slanted adored Goddesses into symbols for jealousy, sneakiness, craziness, and shrill creatures. My favorite is Pandora, who usually is portrayed as the one who brought all the bad things like death and misery and pain by opening a box. But in this she is the giver of all gifts, and it wasn't a box, it was a pithos!
She lifted the lid from the large jar. From it She took a pomegranate, which became an apple, which became a lemon, which became a pear. ...She reached into the jar for a handful of seeds and sprinkled them over the hillside. 'I bring you plants for hunger and illness, for weaving and dyeing'...Then she turned the jar on its side, inundating the hillside with Her flowering grace. The mortals were bathed in the changing colors of her aura. 'I bring you wonder, curiosity, memory, I bring you wisdom. I bring you justice with mercy, I bring you caring and communal bonds. I bring you courage, strength, endurance. I bring you loving kindness for all beings. I bring you the seeds of peace.'
 Here's to a good week!

Thrift Treasure

Happy Spring Break errbody! well my spring break is more like a cold spring day, but i'll take it. This Tyra episode with Paris Hilton is too much for me right now. :( How much delusion can one person take??? Anyways, Here are some of my recent thrift store finds. I love thrift shopping (and garage sales) because you never know what awesome one of a kind things you might find. It can be a little hit and miss, but when you find that diamond in the ruff, all the hunting is worth the reward. for me its the boots!

This I got back in December in San Diego, I wore it on my birthday!

I know im short, but long skirts kick ass! its like a blanket. I saw this black and white gingham skirt and it was love at first sight. The jacket used to be hella wrinkly but i ironed the shit out of it. I don't know, its been hard for me to wear the jacket considering the weather and the color( none of my shoes match it).

I'm single now and this dress is so flirty! At first I thought the neck stuff was a little too cha cha for me, but it turns out to be just enough. More drinks boys!

Oh! My Easter dress! Easter is this Sunday, and I don't know what I'm doin, but I know what I'm wearin! I really hope this dress gets  lots of sunny, spring and summer outings!

Alas! The boots! I got this last week and have wore them everyday (except today, slippers)! This is what thrifters strive for! only $18 and made in italy!

a week in review

oh yeah, its been that kind of week. Chaotic, a little sloppy, but zooming right before my eyes. Hot damn, here are the best parts;
not mine

mine. Last Saturday was my friend's (Gigi and Ed!) wedding. So a couple of weeks ago I finally replaced my sewing machine and this is my first project. I started about two weeks ago with every intention to finish for the wedding, but as it turns out there I was Friday night, up til' 3 am working out the kinks. Her she is! To be honest, it turned out a little tighter and a little shorter than I had hoped but a little leg never hurt anyone. doesn't it look like the dress above? I didn't even see that dress until after I was gone with my own. so ha! I made the necklace, earrings and flower hair piece too! Seriously, wearing this made me feel like Serena Van der woodsen! I didn't take any pics, but I know a lot of people did, so hopeful I can post them soon.
moments before I started writing up this entry, I was sewing, up until the point I foolishly sewed right through my middle finger nail. I screamed for about two minutes straight! note the bandaid. Last Sunday night I had dinner with my family for my mom's bday. after the meal, my grandma pulled out this ziplock bag full of jewelry. She had recently taken it out of the safe deposit spot at the bank, anyways i came out of if with these! Family heirlooms! I've never had any before but these are from Aunty Helen whom I've never met, but apparently everything she buys is real.

I love me a lazy Sunday

Nothing follows a good ole' drunken Saturday night like a relaxing Sunday morning. After waking up at half past noon, we pulled out those st patty's day leftovers and make some delish corn beef hash. Eating outside with the radio and our new sunglasses on, it honestly felt like a mini vacation! err lets call it a staycation. Next we walked through the park, and went on boywatch at the soccer fields. Man, I wish all Sundays could be like this, breakfast and a bongload for two please!
